The Marvel Cinematic Universe took nearly a decade before having its first lead black superhero this year. Dean uses the Black Panther story to get us to reflect on our youth ministry, on why we have difficulty in modelling diversity and developing BAME young people and others who are excluded from our narratives and stories. Dean hopes we might engage this seriously and shift the storytelling to a different narrative that we might be relevant both missionally and pastorally in our work with young people.
